About Austin
Austin Block is a social science teacher currently employed at Washington High School in Fremont. He teaches AP United States History, Economics, and Government, while also serving as a facilitator for the school-wide Coordination of Services Team (COST). This team focuses on identifying and planning interventions for students in need of academic and/or mental health support. He has worked at Fremont Unified School District since early 2022.
Prior to working in Fremont, Austin worked for five years at Luis Valdez Leadership Academy in East San Jose, teaching social studies while also serving as an advisor and Varsity boys' soccer coach. Directly before moving to Newark, he spent six months at the National Center for Youth Law, where he served as an education liaison supporting youth on juvenile probation, collaborating with youth and their families to prepare for high school graduation and plan out potential career paths. Austin has significant experience collaborating with families in support of students, and has frequently led meetings in both English and Spanish.
